Ontario's new cell phone ban was supposed to come into effect tomorrow, but there's been a bit of a delay. The provincial government is reportedly fine-tuning regulations surrounding the ban, so Transportation Minister Jim Bradley says as a result, the new law won't take effect until late October. He says the fine-tuning could include some exemptions, such as leeway for truckers.
Once the law is in force, Ontario drivers could be fined up to $500 if they're caught using their hand-held cellphones or BlackBerrys to talk, email or send text messages while behind the wheel.
